ABC News to dedicate day to hunger

August 22, 2011

After last week’s story about child hunger on ABC World News, ABC News has announced a day dedicated to U.S. Hunger.

On Wednesday, August 24, “Good Morning America,” “World News with Diane Sawyer” and “Nightline” as well as on ABC News Radio and ABCNews.com will feature reports from their series “Hunger at Home: Crisis in America.” This series will demonstrate the reality of hunger in America as well as profile people who are doing work to help our neighbors in need.

ABC will also be announcing a text-to-give campaign where watchers can test “FEED” to 50555 and a $10 donation will be made to Feeding America. Here is a preview of the series.

This series coincides with the release of child food insecurity numbers by county. ConAgra Foods Foundation sponsored additional work to the Map the Meal Gap research done earlier this year which examines food insecurity to the county level.

This week, we will release the information for the percentage of children who do not get enough to eat on the county level. Having this information will help our food banks identify how to address children’s needs across the country.

I am excited to hear people talking about USA. We have helped many a country, but for some reason we have forgotten our very own neighbors and our country. Thank you, Feeding America and ABC.

On ABC News tonight there was a story about hunger in the 50+ population. An obese couple were portrayed in their pitiful plight of hunger. They commented on the diet they choose to survive. REALLY?
Someone should tell them they could save money if they ate less.

I also am glad to hear people are talking about all the people here in the usa that are starving due to the lack of jobs available. I am unemployed can’t find a job and can get no government help, catch 22, we are now about 30 hours into living without food, I am not worried about me but about my son, but he has health issues, so the lack of food is very bad for him but there is nothing i can do. just thought maybe people out there would like to hear about some of the ones that are starving right here in the good ol USA! It’s time we started helping in our own backyard!!
