Joplin before and after … and after

May 31, 2011

This past week was my first time in Joplin, MO. Probably most people going to Joplin recently have never been there before.

I wanted to see some of Joplin before the tornado. After meeting some of the residents, I know they have the will to rebuild Joplin so I wanted to know what is it going to look like.

One of the most commented photos I took from the trip is below. Using Google maps, I found the spot I was standing and what was there before and that picture is underneath.

I can’t imagine what it must feel like to be the people that lived in the house. Was there someone my age? I can’t imagine what it is like to see that in person. I can imagine everybody helping Joplin. I am taking this to my class tomorrow so that we can help somehow.

Great post Dan. I hope that you will return to Joplin in the coming years to appreciate the beauty first hand. Thanks for helping and documenting our story.
