Lee DeWyze shares his voice to promote Hunger Action Month
September 8, 2010
Last week I had the opportunity to attend an American Idol, Cheesecake Factory and Feeding America event, where I was in charge of getting “American Idol” Season Nine winner Lee DeWyze’s Hunger Action Month pledge.
If you haven’t visited the Hunger Action Month site yet, the celebrity pledges are definitely something to check out. Included are pledges from David Arquette, Erin Andrews, Curtis Stone and several others. Then go to the home page and make the pledge yourself!
Also at the event was the Children’s Choir of St. James Catholic School – a choir from Lee’s home town. While they sang Lean on Me, Lee clapped along and really let the kids know what a great group of singers they are. Slices of Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake Cheesecake were passed around, and before I knew it, I was asking Lee to make a pledge.
I have to admit, I was nervous. It’s not every day you meet the winner of American Idol, not to mention whenever a camera is put in my hand I start to feel especially tongue tied and/or shaky (See my first video interview, with Jerry and Estella from “The Biggest Loser” Season Seven… I actually start my question with the word like! What was I thinking?)
As it turned out Lee was a really great person to help me overcome my, like, first celebrity interview experience. He is funny and gracious – very easy to talk to. After he gave his pledge I coolly said, “Have fun at your concert tonight!” and that was that. I went back to my cheesecake.
Visit the Cheesecake Factory Share your Voice website to see how you can benefit Feeding America and eat cheesecake – best of both worlds right?
This video was put together from the event. Look for the choir at the end – the kids really stole the show!
September is Hunger Action Month. Throughout the month, the Feeding America network of more than 200 food banks is asking you to take action through the “30 Ways in 30 Days” campaign. Whether it’s by advocating and raising awareness, making a donation or giving your time, find the way that’s right for you to make a difference in your community. On the blog this month we will feature a story each day about Hunger Action Month, our own 30 Ways in 30 Days.Visit the Hunger Action Month website for more information.Record your pledge, upload your video and post a link in the comments below.
