Today’s Hunger Action Month action is to skip your morning latte and donate the savings – each dollar provides seven meals! Last week I took a quick look at my finances and realized during the work week my coffee consumption has been costing me an average around $8.00 a day! I had been spending 56 meals worth of money on coffee, per day!

National fashion retailer Vanity and Feeding America Entertainment Council member OneRepublic are helping to raise awareness and fight hunger with the “Share the Secret About Hunger” campaign. To date, 36,399 meals have been donated. The campaign has a goal of raising 100,000 meals by October 16!

The child nutrition bill passed by the Senate made significant improvements to nutritional quality, but it didn’t go far enough to make sure low-income children are connected with the programs. The bill was also paid for with future benefit cuts to SNAP participants, half of whom are children.
Contact your Representative today to urge the House to pass a stronger child nutrition bill!

Yesterday, the US Census Bureau released new statistics stating nearly 44 million Americans lived in poverty in 2009. ConAgra Foods and Fleishman-Hillard won a SAMMY in the Social Media for Social Good category for the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign. To date, nearly 70,000 people have rallied together through the campaign to raise the monetary equivalent of 2.7 million meals for kids in need.
