The Bay Area Food Bank in Mobile, Alabama, is in the running for a $100,000 grant! The Bay Area Food Bank services counties in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. They have already witnessed the effects of the oil spill on the people in their area. To respond to the increased need, the food bank has expanded its existing mobile pantry program.

Today, Feeding America released a report on Child Food Insecurity in the United States: 2006-2008. The report was sponsored by Conagra Foods Foundation and we asked the executive director of the foundation, Kori Reed to write why child hunger is important to her and why sponsoring a report helps with the fight against childhood hunger.
