Interview with Cathy ten Broeke of the Office to End Homelessness

Last week, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development presented a strategic plan to President Obama to prevent and end homelessness. Earlier this spring I talked to a college friend Cathy ten Broeke who is the Project Coordinator for the Office to End Homelessness in Minneapolis and Hennepin County. Guest Blog: Tracy Mlakar visits a mobile pantry

Food banks aim to ease access to SNAP benefits

A recent Associated Press story stated that millions of Americans were waiting for their SNAP benefits to kick in because there are not enough people left at the state and local levels of SNAP administration to help the influx of Americans in need.

11-year-old raises 15 tons of food for her community

June 21, 2010

Even kids can change their communities, as 11-year-old Peyton Medick has done. This young lady from Weston, Wisconsin was moved to fight hunger three years ago, after she was brought to tears while watching a news broadcast about poor communities. Since then, she has run Peyton’s Promise, a series of organized food drives held at schools and centers in the central Wisconsin area.

Feds Feed Families food drive launch event

June 17, 2010

The second annual Feds Feed Families food drive kicked off on June 7 at the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington, DC. Feds Feed Families is a national food drive led by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and other federal agencies to raise food for Americans struggling with hunger across the country.
