Nation’s Largest Single-Day Food Drive this Saturday Happening Right Outside Your Front Door
May 5, 2010
This Saturday, May 8, the National Association of Letter Carriers will help Stamp Out Hunger! across America. To be a part of the drive all you have to do is leave a non-perishable food donation at your mailbox. Your letter carrier will pickup and deliver it to your local food bank or pantry!
Letter carriers have collected more than 982 million pounds of food from postal customers since the drive’s inception 18 years ago. Today, the Stamp Out Hunger! effort is our nation’s largest single-day food drive.
This drive is very important to a majority of our food banks. Traditionally people have been very generous – perhaps because the drop off location is only steps from the kitchen! Also, because the food is non-perishable, the food garnered from the drive can go a long way for quite awhile. The more food we can donate, the more people and families we will help feed in our own communities.
Need help remembering to pick up a few extra groceries this week? Text STAMP6 to 30305 to be a part of a text message reminder campaign. Those who participate should receive three texts:
- An initial confirmation message
- A reminder message this Friday a day before the drive
- A thank you message Monday following the drive
For more information, please visit the Stamp Out Hunger! website. You will find ways to connect via social media, material to help spread the word, and hunger facts and some great videos about the cause.
Curious about where your food will go? Find your nearest food bank with our food bank locator. Each food bank will in turn redistribute the food to its agencies, where your neighbors in need will benefit. You can get a food bank locator widget to put on your own website or blog.
