South Pasedena’s Holy Family Giving Bank
April 12, 2010
South Pasadena marks the end of our Southwest Tour with a stop at the Holy Family Giving Bank. This Los Angeles Regional Food Bank agency has spent the last 32 years catering to both parishioners and non-parishioners alike. We were able to make a Monday visit to learn more about the Commodity Supplemental Food Program distribution, and ran into some wonderful new friends at the site.
Please watch our video about South Pasadena’s Holy Family Giving Bank.
Thanks for joining me this month on my journey through one of the most picturesque parts of this country. I hope you got a little glimpse into the lives of people served by our member food banks in the region.
What I will take with me from this excursion is the increasing number of senior citizens in need of help bridging the gap between fixed incomes and skyrocketing standards of living. Feeding America member food banks serve nearly 3 million seniors each year, a humbling number considering that many of these individuals spent their lives working hard to avoid the situations they now face. Florence, Audrey and Grandma Bobbie remind us that we need to care for our elders.
Next up, we will take a trip to Seattle’s Providence Regina House, an agency of the 2010 Feeding America Member of the Year award winner, Food Lifeline. Until then, don’t forget to advocate, donate, or volunteer at your local food bank!
