The final day of training, after we had done all our technical learning, we gathered in a circle on the floor to reflect. We shared our achievements, personal goals, and praises for the group as a whole. It was incredibly moving for me to experience the genuine sense of accomplishment and pride we shared with each other. In my, albeit limited, experience, love of this kind is rare among co-workers. I never felt more fortunate to be a part of Cohort 2 than I did in that moment, and it reminded me that there has undoubtedly been a greater purpose to our work than our ability to send our programs off into a steady and unwavering future…

Despite our best efforts to convince Congress to balance the budget in a way that doesn’t hurt families struggling with hunger, the House Agriculture Committee is poised to vote on a Farm Bill that will cut SNAP, or food stamps, by $21 billion. That’s 8 billion meals that will be lost.

During my last semester at Loyola University Chicago, I was determined to stretch my altruistic muscles and support a good cause before I entered blindly into adulthood. Unfortunately, as a college student, I didn’t have the disposable monetary funds available to purchase a cup of coffee, let alone support a charity. I did, however, have the skills that I learned in my communication classes and I wanted to put them to good use.
